The Rattletooth is an opportunistic, four-limbed dragon found in the forested parts of the Higher Realm. When they are in their threat posture they are known to shake their head in order to create the namesake rattling sound with their articulate teeth. However, because of this aspect, they do not have a strong bite, so instead, they use their wing talon and short beak to tear pieces of flesh off of prey too big to swallow whole. They create their nests in burrows created by other dragons, usually these burrows have already been abandoned but they will occasionally attack and kill the previous inhabitant. While they are competent predators, they prefer to steal the prey (and sometimes the eggs) of other dragons, sometimes they will even steal livestock. Rattleteeth are also nest parasites, but strangely, they only parasitize the nests of other Rattleteeth. If an egg suddenly appears in a Rattletooth's nest, it will care for it even though it obviously isn't its own egg. These dragons are almost entirely solitary, only paring together during breeding season before returning to their own nests, though subadult Rattleteeth are known to occasionally form "gangs", stealing eggs and prey from other, larger dragons. Humans in the region of Varboros have figured out how to tame these dragons and often use them as pack animals and mounts. Traditionally, Varborosians will steal an egg from an unoccupied nest and get it acclimated to humans and (unnamed speaking dragons) once it hatches, but most Varborosian Rattleteeth nowadays are captive-bred.
