Ornovask, the Umber Armor Beast

Return to previous page.

Ornovask are large, omnivorous monsters that are found in the Southwestern Region. They are commonly found around and in muddy or rocky rivers in herds of up to 15 individuals, they can may stay underwater for several hours due to the twin horns on their nose, they act in a similar way to snorkels, allowing the beast to be almost entirely submerged. They feed on both aquatic and terrestrial plants, as well as any fish they come across. Very few monsters prey on them due to their size and armor plating, but predators do exist, Ornovask prefer to use their tail club to defend themselves, though they will also use their fists if the threat is in front of them. Ossified growths are found on their knuckles, these reinforce their hands and allow them to "punch" down trees to mark their territory, though they can be used as a deadly weapon. The bony protrusions found on its limbs only begin development once an Ornovask is halfway to its fully grown size. In females, they are beige in color, while in males, they are a dark brown, gaining bright red markings in mating season. These protrusions are full of blood vessels and aid in thermoregulation, in the event they never develop—something that is surprisingly common—these monsters are prone to overheating when outside of the water, especially during hot days.

ART

a bulky monster which resembles a bipedal dinosaur. It has snorkel-like horns at the end of its snout, a jutting lower jaw with tooth-like protrusions, and beady eyes. Its neck is covered in overlapping armor-like plates that continues down its back and tail, though its underbelly is unarmored. Its shoulders have five bulky, bone-like protrusions, another protrusion is found on its elbow. Its hands are stubby and end in short claws, bone-like protrusions are seen on its knuckles. Its hind legs also have massive bone-like protrusions, they are seen on the thigh, knee, and ankle. Its tail is thick and entirely covered in armor plating, ending in a rounded club. Much of the monster's armor is a yellowish brown, while the armor's points are a warm brown. This same shade of brown is seen on its parts of its head, its arms and lower legs, and most of the club. The armor on its shoulder, thigh, nose horns, and the tip of the tail are a darker brown. The underside and bony protrusions are beige.

Notes

This beast was drawn over the course of three days, taking a total of around 14 hours. Once I draw this monster again, I will likely redesign the bony protrusions to make their purpose clearer.
