Gloaming Lamenter

Return to previous page.

The Gloaming Lamenter was created by Vengosa, they are named for being most active during dawn and dusk, as well as the strange sounds they produce. These sophont Wyrms were originally thought to be solitary, it was eventually discovered that during the day and night, they return to a colony of other Lamenters. Their society is poorly understood due to their distrust of outsiders, but some of the larger Wyrmkillers' Guilds are working on relations, to prove that they can be trusted. While in a resting posture, they hold their four arms inside of their wing-cloak, making them them resemble robed, upright bipeds. They use their beak to feed upon blood and Ichor, the latter of which is obtained from other Wyrms. If a Lamenter is seen by a sophont creature, that Lamenter will know the exact location of that individual, it can also transmit this knowledge to other Lamenters if they feel that the individual is dangerous to them, so they know to either kill that individual, or merely avoid them. As Wyrmkillers don't go after these Wyrms, the main mortal threat to these Wyrms are self-proclaimed "monster hunters", mortals who slay those they decide are monsters.

ART

a drawing of a quadrupedal monster that has four arms alongside its walking limbs. The background consists of ruddy brown soil, a forest in the distance, and two dark, dead trees, a rock lies in the foreground and the sky is purple on the edges and becomes yellowish towards the center.. The monster has a long, thin beak that is the same shade of white as its limbs and the underside of the torso, the back of its head is cloaked by a cowl of ragged black skin. This dark skin continues up its long, curving neck and onto the top-side of its body, as well as its cloak-like wing membranes. Its upper torso has visible ribs, and bends at a right angle once it reaches the middle. Three of its four long, bony arms are visible, two are held close together while the third visible arm is held outstretched. Its fingers are very long and bony as well, ending in long, thin claws. Just above the first set of arms are its wings, they end in two claws that are only visible on the wing furthest from the point of view. None of the white skin is visible on the wing closest to the viewer, instead looking like a ragged black cloak. The lower torso is short and ends in two long, bony legs and a short, thin tail. Only one leg is fully visible, as the other one is covered by one of the wings, the leg ends in three toes that have long, thin claws.

Notes

When I designed the Gloaming Lamenter, one of the first details I came up with was how they resemble a robed biped while in a neutral state, while in actuality being a quadruped. The final design didn't end up too different from the original sketch, only the hands and feet were changed.
