The Jeth'vul are piscine sophonts who originated from the freezing waters near the Isle of Ix. A thick layer of blubber is present underneath their skin, allowing them to resist the cold temperatures. All Jeth'vul are female, though only members of the reproductive caste are capable of laying eggs. The other two castes are the workers and warriors, the former are a generalist caste which is capable of filling many roles in a colony, while the latter exist to hunt and defend the rest of the colony. Most Jeth'vul do not leave their colony, though those who do leave typically do so when the colony is experiencing little-to-no struggle. This is the reason most people living on the Talverian mainland rarely see Jeth'vul. Diet not only varies based on caste, but is also what determines the caste a Jeth'vul will grow up to be; a diet of meat creates a warrior, a mixed diet results in a worker, and a diet consisting of a mixture of meat and the gel-bladders of the Ghu'tak kelp will result in a reproducer.
Jeth'vul language is poorly understood, as while they do have spoken languages, they mainly communicate through bioelectric signals. These signals not only allow them to "speak" without words, it also allows them to detect intruders without ever seeing them. This field of electricity becomes more powerful in larger groups of Jeth'vul.
