Deadmouth

Return to previous page.

The Deadmouth was created by Asmorium and is easily among the most dangerous of the Lesser Wyrms, they are named for their ability to weaponize the voices of those they eliminate from existence. Those who hear a Deadmouth are bombarded with discordant voices, strange and frightening hallucinations, and will gain the understanding that they are prey and prey alone. While in this state, if the victim peers into the Deadmouth's gaping maw — which the Wyrm can easily compel them to do in this state — they cease to exist. Those who do survive encounters with a Deadmouth experience recurring nightmares and flashbacks, hallucinations, and the feeling that one is being watched. So far, no cure or treatment for this "Wyrm Madness" has been discovered. Strangely, these Wyrms strongly smell of ozone, even more so than the average Ichor-rich Wyrm.

So far, only one Deadmouth has been slain, as they will usually disappear back to Agradath if they feel they've been outmatched, this was only prevented by one of the Wyrmkillers paralyzing it using a serum made from Qolruka venom. All surviving Wyrmkillers involved with this hunt have since retired and their current locations are entirely unknown. Wyrmkilling was already a dangerous profession, and the appearance of this Wyrm has made it even more so. Fortunately, these Wyrms are incredibly rare, only three have been seen in 25 years.

Art

a drawing of a white, tentacled monster on a simple dark and mountainous background. The monster's mouth takes up a lot of its body, its gums are black and bear white, needle-like teeth. Its head is bulbous and leads into a long tail that ends in a pincer and a dark, branching tendril. Its tentacles encircle the body, they are long, smooth, and tapered.

Drawn in 2023, current design lacks the tail and pincer.

Notes

I got the design for the Deadmouth from a dream I had once, and the name came shortly after, it felt right. I knew I wanted them to be immensely dangerous, so I gave them the ability to make people cease to exist. I didn't want this monster to look intimidating, more strange or ominous, so I decided that the only sharp parts of its anatomy would be its teeth.
