Deadmouth

Return to previous page.

The Deadmouth was created by Asmorium and is easily among the most dangerous of the Lesser Wyrms. They were created in an effort to see if it was possible to transform living beings into a nonphysical form — which the Deadmouth is then capable of absorbing into itself to gain all memories and knowledge from its victims. Their most dangerous power is typically referred to as "The Call"; a sound which cannot be physically heard, but can be sensed, any who "hear" it have always disappeared under strange circumstances. They are incredibly intelligent, though it is not yet known if they are sophont. Strangely, these Wyrms strongly smell of ozone.

So far, only one Deadmouth has been slain, as they will usually disappear back to Agradath if they feel they've been outmatched, this was only prevented by one of the Wyrmkillers managing to fully block its ability to use Ichor sorcery. While it was significantly weaker in this state, it is still physically powerful. These Wyrmkillers also discovered the purpose of the retractable pincer on its tail; it used it to remove the head of one of their slain colleagues and inserted a branching tendril into the newly-created opening, it then proceeded to implant a small amount of an as yet undescribed substance and reanimated the corpse. The corpse only deanimated once the Deadmouth was finally slain, both were brought into custody by the Wyrmkilling Society of Vandir in order to study them, all surviving Wyrmkillers involved with this hunt have since retired. Wyrmkilling was already a dangerous profession, and the appearance of this Wyrm has made it even more so. Fortunately, these Wyrms are incredibly rare, only three have been seen in as many decades.

ART

a drawing of a white, tentacled monster on a simple dark and mountainous background. The monster's mouth takes up a lot of its body, its gums are black and bear white, needle-like teeth. Its head is bulbous and leads into a long tail that ends in a pincer and a dark, branching tendril. Its tentacles encircle the body, they are long, smooth, and tapered.

Notes

I got the design for the Deadmouth from a dream I had once, and the name came shortly after, it felt right. I knew I wanted them to be immensely dangerous, so I gave them the ability to essentially make people cease to exist, and the ability to reanimate corpses in emergency circumstances. I didn't want this monster to look intimidating, more strange or ominous, so I decided that the only sharp parts of its anatomy would be its teeth and tail pincer.
