BROCADETAIL

Return to previous page.

a dragon which resembles a betta fish with four short legs. Its scales are a very dark purple, its underside is smooth and white. The fins on its face, limbs, back, and tail are red with purple edges. At the end of its snout are two bluish horns.

"Dragon Spirits are not edible, I repeat, Dragon Spirits are not edible. The materialization of Dragon Spirits is not a perfect substance, it does not have any nutritional value. Fisher friends, please be kind to Brocadetail."

Before I get into what I like about this water element dragon, that info text certainly has implications about what people think of Brocadetails in-universe. I believe this dragon was the second one I contracted, not including Dreadpupil. They are able to deal massive amounts of indirect damage and have extremely good HP growth for such an early dragon. While this dragon is pretty much just a betta fish with legs, it is rather beautifully designed. A detail I think is pretty neat is how its hind limbs appear to be in the process of becoming more finlike—the feet are almost entirely gone and much of the legs' actual length consists of a narrow structure that happens to be the same color as the fins. If Dragon Spirits undergoe evolution like more traditional creatures, the Brocadetail's descendants would have likely lost the hind limbs entirely. Its forelimbs however, are much more developed and end in long claws that remind me of those of a turtle. This dragon is ornate without being over-the-top and feels almost naturalistic. Designwise, it is pretty simple, but I feel that works in its favor.
